Musical Ladders

Mark Ronson - “Stop Me”

I decided it was time for me to write about my crush of the moment - Mark Ronson. He has a great song out now by the name of “Stop Me”. He’s not the guy actually singing. That’s Daniel Merriweather, but he’s responsible for the actual music and the producing. He proves you don’t have to be the one behind the mic to be the main attraction. Hmm.. but I guess Timbaland does that too..

“Stop Me” begins with Daniel Merriweather singing “Stop me. Oh, oh, oh, stop me. Stop me if you think that you’ve heard this one before” which is kind of funny because I actually have. The song was originally done by a British group, The Smiths, back in the 80s. That’s where the similarities end though. Ronson has done a fantastic job giving the song new life.

When I first heard the song, I thought I loved it because of Merriweather’s vocals. His vocals are good and nice to listen to (not to mention he’s pretty cute). But after playing the track over and over I’ve realized that I love the music. The track itself is on point. I don’t feel a lot of emotion from the vocals, but I feel a lot of soul in the music.

Beat tracks are good, but it’s nice to listen to music that’s actually music and not just sounds. Hopefully, Mark Ronson will continue to release more albums. I’ve yet to pick up Version, but it’s on my list of must haves.

Stop me, oh oh oh, stop me,
Stop me if you think that you’ve,
Heard this one before.
Stop me, oh oh oh, stop me,
Stop me if you think that you’ve,
Heard this one before.

Cause nothing’s changed,
I still love you.
Oh, I still love you,
Only slightly, only slightly less,
Than I used to, my love.

I was delayed, I was way-laid,
An emergency stop,
I saw the last ten seconds of life,
I crashed down on the crossbar,
And the pain was enough to make,
A shy, bald, buddhist reflect.
And plan a mass murder,
Who said I’d lied to her?

Who said I’d lied?
Because I never, never,
Who said I’d lied because I never.

I was detained, I was restrained,
Broke my knee,
And broke my spleen,
And then he really layed into me. (Yeah)
Friday night in out-patients,
Who said I’d lied to her?

Who said I’d lied?
Because I never, never,
Who said I’d lied to her?

Oh, so I drank one,
It became four.
And when I fell on the floor,
I drank more

Stop me, oh oh oh, stop me,
Stop me if you think that you’ve,
Heard this one before.
Stop me, oh oh oh, I said stop me,
Stop me if you think that you’ve,
Heard this one before.

Nothing’s changed.
I still love you,
Oh, I still love you.
Only slightly, only slightly less,
than I used to, my love.

Set me free why dont you?
Get out my life why dont you?
Cause you dont really love me, you just keep me hanging on

Set me free why dont you?
Get out of my love why dont you?
Cause you dont really love me you just keep me hanging on.
